Montmartre in the 1890s: one painter traded the contour of night for flat color fields and lines that never waver—Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Moulin Rouge posters pasted on street walls; dancers under cabaret lights and circus horses in mid-gallop, frozen on the single plane of a lithograph.
